Get Ready to Shakeout on Oct 20
October 18, 2016 5:39 AM
The NOCCCD School of Continuing Education (SCE) will participate in the largest statewide earthquake drill, The Great ShakeOut, at 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2016. According to the website www.shakeout.org, approximately 10.3 million people are expected to participate in Thursday's preparedness drill. Everyone, everywhere, should know how to protect themselves in an earthquake. The Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill is an annual opportunity for people in homes, schools, and organizations to practice what to do during earthquakes, including the drop, cover, and hold exercise.
At 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2016, all SCE students, faculty, and staff are asked to:
- 1) Practice the drop, cover, and hold on exercise
- 2) WILSHIRE CENTER ONLY: Evacuate to designated class/building locations
- 3) Discuss in class, offices, or at home how to prepare in the event of an earthquake.
For additional resources, including tips, checklists, and more, visit www.shakeout.org.
During the drill, SCE will test the emergency communication system. In the event of an emergency, information related to campus emergencies, closures, or evacuations will be sent via text message. Emergency text alerts will now be sent using the cell phone number that you provided when registering for classes or updated via myGateway (http://mg.nocccd.edu). To ensure you receive emergency communication, please be sure that your contact information is always current in myGateway. Visit the Personal Information channel in myGateway and then Update My Address and Phone. Emergency notices will also be posted on the SCE social media pages including Facebook (www.facebook.com/sce.edu) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/sce_edu).
