Thirty-eight Students Awarded at Largest SCE Scholarship Event, Color Your Future
SCE's annual scholarship awards luncheon Color Your Future took place on May 12, 2017. Thirty-eight scholarship award recipients had an opportunity to meet with their donors and share their plans on applying the funds to further their education. We were pleased to hear that at least 12 recipients plan to continue their education at Cypress College or Fullerton College. It was especially exciting to welcome Chancellor Emeritus Dr. Ned Doffoney and to introduce him to this year's recipient of the Courage Award, which was established by Dr. Doffoney at his retirement celebration. Thank you to SCE Provost Emeritus Christine Terry and Trustee Jackie Rodarte for also attending and for their continuous support of the SCE Scholarship Program and to Chancellor Dr. Cheryl Marshall, Vice Chancellor of Finance and Facilities Fred Williams, and Cypress College President Dr. Bob Simpson for attending the luncheon.
Class of 2017 Graduates
On May 26, SCE celebrated with nearly 600 students as they received their diplomas and career certificates at the 2017 Commencement Ceremony. SCE was pleased to welcome Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva as the keynote speaker. Inspiring speeches were made by Career Technical Education Program student Araceli Sandoval and High School Diploma Program student Germania Sanchez as well as part-time faculty member Dr. Julie Shields. Thank you to Board of Trustees Vice President Jackie Rodarte and Member Ryan Bent for attending as well as Chancellor Dr. Cheryl Marshall, Vice Chancellor Dr. Cherry Li-Bugg, and District Director of Information Services Deborah Ludford. Over 40 managers, faculty, and student leaders participated in the event to honor SCE students. Thank you to the Commencement Committee along with the 30 faculty and staff volunteers who helped to execute a smooth and successful event.
